Announcements & News / Boarcraft status update - Feb. 2017
« on: February 05, 2017, 09:54:57 PM »
Hey Boarcrafters!

It's been a while since I posted anything here or on our Discord, so I wanted to give you guys an update on what's been going on, what the current status of Boarcraft is and what the future plans are.

The past month

January have been a really busy month for me, both at work but also outside work because of a lot of family events. I've felt pretty stressed most days without much energy left to actually do stuff like work on Boarcraft, stream on Twitch or update my YouTube channel. This led me to mostly taking a break from everything, except work, my girlfriend and my family, to try and manage things without getting overwhelmed.

Fortunately, I'm starting to feel more on top of things and I believe I'm slowly getting better to manage my stress levels. I've felt really bad about leaving you guys in the dark for this long, but I also wanted to make sure I found the right balance for myself, so I wouldn't end up i situations like this again. I hope you guys can understand.

The current status Boarcraft

The server has unfortunately, and as you probably noticed, not seen any real development yet this year. This has not been because I no longer wanted to finish Boarcraft or because I didn't know how to progress, but simply that getting back to server development felt too overwhelming. I've been happy to see that there have still been some regular activity on Discord despite my absence.

There are still many things that I want to fix before an eventual release, which includes the things mentioned in the previous announcement. You guys have also discovered new, strange bugs that have appeared after the last core update of CMaNGOS. With a bit of luck, some of these things will be fixed by simply updating to the latest core, so this will be first on my list before rebooting development.

Future plans

My future plans are to slowly get back to server development starting next week and then gradually increase my activity until I build up a nice pace. The first time will mostly be spend on catching up on bug reports, forums posts and other things that needs a response. Then comes the core update where I will check if any of the bugs we have were mentioned as fixed. Next I will need to get an overview over what needs to be done and in what order, so we can get the critical things done first. Getting the project prepared for team development will also be a priority, but fortunately I did most of the preparations already.

I won't be able to provide any release date for now as my first goal will simply be to make stable progress. Ideally, I would like to reach a point where I can release a weekly update, without having to worry meating a tight deadline in 'X' weeks.

Lastly I want to thank all of you who support this project and have stuck with me this far! I hope I can provide you with a great experience in the end, even though development haven't gone 100% according to plan. :)

Announcements & News / Boarcraft launch delayed & future plans
« on: December 16, 2016, 10:05:07 PM »
Hey Boarcrafters!

The date that I originally wanted to launch Boarcraft on is here, but unfortunately the server is not nearly as ready as I want it to be, to provide a really great experience.

A lot of issues and possible improvements have become clear during all the testing that's been done during the open beta. This has been really valueable for the project and I want to use these discoveries to make the server as good as it can be.

That will require some more time however and it means that the launch will have to be delayed. I believe this is the right choice even though I feel bad about not living up to the initial launch date. The current plan is to postpone the launch to around the end of January.

Some of the issues I would like to have ready are:
- Proper mob scaling, so all dungeons/raids can eventually be defeated.
- Removal of high end spells that weren't supposed to be available.
- Improved chest/rare mob drops in Dun Morogh.
- More gear progression options in Dun Morogh, through PvP, quests etc.
- Stability improvements to the server, so it can handle a larger population without problems.
- General improvements to the lvl 1 - 10 experience to avoid confusion with broken quests or where to find NPCs.

December have been really busy for me so far, so there haven't been that much progress. To combat this I will start opening up the server development so others can pitch in and help fixing the things that needs to be done.

The server will remain online as open beta up until launch and characters/items will stay until the end game content have been tested. There might be a character wipe at some point before launch to test if gear progression and everything is working as intended. Before the actual launch, all characters will be deleted to provide a fresh start for everyone.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for all the testing you have done so far! It has been really cool to get this much feedback on the project and I'm looking forward to see where we can take it. I hope you have enjoyed your time here so far. :)

Hey Boarcrafters,

The server crashed pretty hard last night and unfortunately the accounts table in the database got corrupted. I tried all the different methods for repairing it that I could find but with no success. Everyone will therefore need to make new accounts on the website.

All characters are still intact and you can get them reconnected to your new account by sending me a private message on Discord with:

  • New account name
  • Character names
  • Character levels
  • Character classes
  • Character races

My Discord: SpiritBoar#5982
Boarcraft Discord:

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Before launch I will make sure to have automatic backups of the database set up. :)

Announcements & News / GM commands to help testing during beta
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:14:13 PM »
Hi Boarcrafters,

I hope you're all enjoying the open beta and getting a lot of stuff tested. To make this easier for you I've decided to make a small subset of the GM commands available for everyone. These are the commands you can now start using:

  • .additem
  • .additemset
  • .go creature
  • .go xy
  • .go xyz
  • .go zonexy
  • .gps
  • .lookup item
  • .lookup itemset
  • .lookup area
  • .lookup tele
  • .modify money
  • .npc info
  • .quest add
  • .quest complete
  • .quest remove
  • .repair
  • .revive
  • .tele

Please use them to test that item and mob scaling works correctly and see if the various dungeons can be done with suitable gear for their lvl ranges.

You can find a list of how to use the commands here:

Another way is to just type them in and it will respond with how you should use the command.

Happy testing!

Changes & Updates / Server Updates - Nov 22nd 2016
« on: November 22, 2016, 08:18:51 PM »
Hey Boarcrafters!

Boarcraft have just been updated to fix some issues that were discovered after the previous update and to improve on the lvl 1 - 10 experience. Here are the changes which just went live:

  • Fixed the major bug where some spells were broken, meaning they had either no effect or an insane amount of damage/healing, after the item spell effects update!
This was caused by the process used to import DBC files to the database to be able to run SQL queries on them for the scaling we had to do. A new process have now been found that doesn't mess up the spell values. If interested you can how it's currently done on the Trello development board.
  • Fixed an issue where ranged attack power wasn't scaled along with melee attack power for items.
  • Changed mob scaling slightly to make 1 - 10 mobs have less health such that they are faster to kill.

All gear should now be scaled properly without broken spells and the changes have been added to an updated patch-5.MPQ file.

Next in line are the chest and rare mob loot upgrades as well as scaling down the remaining things, such as enchants, potions and other non gear items. I will also be looking into giving all test accounts access to a few GM commands to make it easier to test the server before launch.

Let me know if you have any feedback concernings these updates or the future changes!

Changes & Updates / Server Updates - Nov 8th 2016
« on: November 08, 2016, 08:10:03 PM »
Hello Boarcrafters!

A new update was rolled out to Boarcraft today with just a few changes but some of them are pretty big:

  • Amount of signatures needed to form a guild have been reduced from 9 to 4.
  • The portal between Ironforge and the Airfield have been remade using proper area triggers, which means you can use the portals without having to click them and they work as a ghost as well.
  • Implemented a new item scaling formular that applies to all items in the game.
It works by dividing all item stats such as buy/sell price, armor, damage, +stats etc. by 3, effectively making end game gear slightly stronger than regular lvl 20 gear. This change creates a better item progression from starter items to end game gear, because it affects all items and not just gear with an ilvl above 15 as before.

This creates a slightly larger gear gap between the lowest and highest ilvls, but gear upgrades will also be more meaningfull, since there is a bigger difference when getting an upgrade. Still, differences are not so big that you will feel underpowered against someone with better gear than yourself.

This scaling formular also opens up for the possibility of a bigger difference in mob strength between low level and high level zones. This was previously not possible because of the small difference in gear power despite ilvl.
  • Applied the same scaling formular spell effects on gear, dividing their strength by 3.
  • Added scaling of random enchantments such as gear with suffixes 'of the Monkey', 'of the Boar' etc. and corrected the visual values to show correctly.

There are still things that are not yet scaled correctly, such as enchanting spells, alchemy potions and other things that aren't gear. I need to get an overview over exactly what needs to be scaled and what doesn't before I dig into this.

I'm very much looking forward to your feedback on these changes, as I think this could be a really cool way of scaling things for this server!

To make sure everything displays correctly I had to create a custom patch file for the WoW client. You can download it from the frontpage on

Happy testing :D

Changes & Updates / Server Updates - Oct 29th 2016
« on: October 29, 2016, 12:40:21 PM »
Another update have been applied to Boarcraft today which brings the following changes:

  • Improved mob difficulty/power scaling throughout the different zones.
The new power multiplier is between 1 - 3 where lvl 1 - 10 mobs have a multiplier of 1 and mobs with an original lvl of 60 get a multiplier of 3.
  • Added the spell Redemption rank 1 to Paladin trainers.
  • Updated gossip texts and map directions for profession trainers, the banker and the guild master.
  • Added guard gossip menu to Dun Morogh Mountaineers.
  • Made all weapon skills trainable from the Kharanos weapon master.
  • Moved BG quest givers Horde Warcaller and Alliance Brigadier General to Kharanos.
  • Made NPCs Tundra MacGrann and Paxton Ganter cross faction.
  • Removed extra campfires that burned Tundra MacGrann and Nori Pridedrift.
  • Made graveyard at Anvilmar horde only.
  • Made the skill Poisons available at rogue trainers.
  • Moved the pet trainer Harruk to Coldridge Valley.
  • Changed Dual Wield lvl req. for rogues to lvl 5.
  • Added missing rogue spells to trainers at Coldridge Valley/Ironforge Airfield.
  • Made the quest Bitter Rivals work for Horde too.

I'm especially interested in if the mob power scaling works well so please submit any feedback you might have. :)

Known bugs:
  • Gear with random enchantments aren't scaled down correctly, so stats are higher than items with similar ilvl. This will be fixed in a future patch.

That's all for this update! There's still a lot more to come so the goal of a pre-christmas launch can be reached.

Feel free to post an introduction, share your favorite addon or perhaps add some feedback with what you think this server needs the most.

I will be updating the forum some more in the future with development updates, guides and other things.
